Ships2Shores

Since spring 2019, Ships2Shores has engaged 7,000+ young people to explore coastlines and waterways across Canada. Through sailing, tall ship voyages and real-need community projects, S2S provides youth with key skills that they will use at home, school and work throughout their lives.

Ships2Shores’ goal is to reduce barriers to sail training enabling youth to experience the many benefits associated with sailing experience such as pre-employment training, team work, resiliency, confidence and caring for oneself and each other.

Created for this very purpose, the S2S Sailing Access Fund  supports youth who would otherwise not be able to experience the adventure and wonder of sail training by covering some or all travel and program costs.

As the Ships2Shores initiative is youth-led, we invite young people to join our National Youth Leadership Team for a great opportunity to inspire peers and lead some of the project’s exciting and change-making activities.

Hours Allocation for Ships2Shores Program:
Participants in the Ships2Shores program are required to complete a total of 120 hours. These hours are divided as follows:

Onboarding (10 hours)

• Includes submitting necessary forms and attending workshops

Offboarding (10 hours)

• Involves completing evaluation and feedback forms, logging all completed hours, and presenting a community service project

Sailing Hours

• Day Voyages: Each day on a day voyage counts for 5 hours on the water. Youth will sail for 5 days for one week from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
• Overnight Voyages: Each day on an overnight voyage counts for 7 hours on the water

Community Service Project (Remaining Hours)

• The remaining hours to complete the program will come from planning, executing, and completing a community service project of the participant’s choice

Note: Youth who have participated in winter programming since the start of the project can count those hours toward their total required hours.
